It's time for Therapy, Sis.

Let me ask you a couple of questions: when you were growing up, did you have access to therapy? If so, did you see a therapist who looked like you? Were you a latch key kid, raised by a single mom?

While our parents worked, many of us were left to our own devices and were unsupervised for very long periods of time. We used each other as our support systems and, heck, my whole neighborhood was full of single parent families, and don’t get me wrong, it was lit! The adventures and stories we have to tell are endless.

But back then, mental health was never discussed. It wasn’t trendy to talk about therapy and we certainly didn’t want to be associated with being seen as “crazy.”Now that the stigma of mental health has significantly decreased, isn’t it time to see about your mental health?

As a parent, you’ve sacrificed for your kids and now they’re either grown, they’ve left home, or they’re about to and you’re planning for your life when that happens. Yet still, you have these unresolved things that happened in your childhood or happened along the way as an adult that needs to be resolved.

What are you waiting for to reach out for therapy? It’s your time sis! I know you get your nails done, get your hair done, but what are you getting done about your mental health? What are you waiting for?

At one point while raising my boys, I remember feeling like I never had enough time for myself. Between dropping them off at school, getting to work on time, making sure they got to practice, getting home from practice, getting schoolwork done, getting dinner on the table and finally putting them to bed, I was exhausted afterwards. Heck, I’m exhausted thinking about it lol! What great times, but there just didn’t seem to be enough time in the day for me.

Now, all I have is time, the kids are gone, they’re off being baby grown ups with their own lives and I have lots of me time. What about you? Maybe you’re so used to putting everyone and everything before you, that you haven’t given it much thought. I’m here to encourage you to put your mental health at the top of your list of priorities.

It’s time to dig in and heal those places that you've been holding on to since childhood. Now is the time.
